Generative AI has made fabricating convincing photos and videos trivial. Every institution and individual that depends on visual evidence — citizen journalists, human rights documenters, courts, journalists, insurers, and the public at large — is now operating under the assumption that any image they receive could be fake.

Reactive tools can't keep up. Detection is in an arms race it will keep losing as generative models improve. The only durable answer is to authenticate media at the source, and to anchor that authenticity to something no one company can control.
